(Community Based Sustainable Forest Management for Water Resources Conservation)

Agent for Social Change is Working COSFOM Project at Ukhrul District, Manipur under Manipur Forest Department.

Project Background: The Community based Sustainable Forest Management for Water Resources Conservation in Manipur’ was designed as a development project of the Government of India (GoI) supported by the Federal Government of Germany through KfW within the context of the lndo-German Program on Climate Change Adaptation in. the Himalaya. It is implemented by the Manipur Forest Department (MFD, the Project Executing Agency) and managed by the Community Forestry and Water Conservation Society-Manipur (CF&WCS-M, the Project Management Unit).

Project delivering four results / outputs:

1. Participatory watershed planning, coordination, and monitoring
2. Restoration and sustainable management of upper watersheds
3. Security and improvements of livelihoods
4. Capacity building for community-based watershed management.

COSFOM-KfW is providing various supports to VG (Village Group) / WRCC (water Resource Conservation Committee) by preparing the various plans such as:

• Forest Management Plan with community forestry approach
• Watershed management with afforestation supports
• Riparian plantation with Stream Management plan
• Biodiversity Conservation Plan
• Village mioro-Plan
• Livelihood Improvement Plan including IGA related activities
• Credit Scheme Plan following
• PCA (Peace and Conflict Assessment)
• ESMF (Environmental Social Management Framework)

• Conservation and Revival of Springs,
• Village Infrastructure Development,
• Village Micro -Plan,
• Biodiversity Conservation Plan,
• Village Entry point Activity.

Formation of SHGs, Identified VHH (Vulnerable House Hold) and economy support under Livelihood Improvement Plan.

Village Wise SHGs Number and VHH Numbers:

1. Hatha Village: No. of VHH = 5 (persons) & No. SHGs = 2 groups (total members 31)
2. Lamlang Village: No. of VHH = 33 (persons) & No. SHGs = 8 groups (total members 151)
3. Ramva (Lambui) Village: No. of VHH = 35 (person) & No. SHGs = 15 groups (224 members)
4. Shangshak Phungton Village: No. of VHH = 30 (persons) & No. SHGs = 10 groups (130
   members)
5. Shokvao Village : No. of VHH = 17 (persons) & No. SHGs = 5 groups (total members 75)
6. Tashar Village: No. of VHH = 63 (persons) & No. SHGs =23 groups (385 members)
