Introduction or Background:
Senapati District is the northern part of Manipur bounded by Nagaland State. Most of the ethnic groups are belong to Naga tribe by politically and some other minority groups are also inhabited in the district.Problem and Root Cause:
- Problem: School Dropout students and school going students, vulnerable youths are using drugs and becomes Addicted
- Root Cause of the Problem: Low family income, No job for livelihood, frustrated youths, School Dropped out students, vulnerable youths, Unemployment and poor means of income earning.
- Opportunity Available by ASOC – skills staff, community cooperation, Government support means new government policy, available of drug user high risk group in Programme areas.
Target No.:
1200 drugs user youths / adolescents / vulnerable youths / students / school dropped out students / beneficiaries in one year period.
Target group / Beneficiaries:
Rural Youths / Vulnerable youth / Youths who are / were Schools dropped out / College dropped out or still school going Students / Frustrated Youth/ Unemployed youths who are started to using drugs or addicted to drugs, Ganja, Wine and other Alcoholism and Substance (Drugs) Abuse.
Programme Objectives:
- Outreach activities in the community among young vulnerable population
- Identification and Training of youth as Peer Educators to lead peer led community intervention
- Behavioural change communication sessions for community by Peer Educators Individual, group and family counselling
- Screening and assessment of clients on substance use disorder
- Ensure referral and linkage to service centres
- Individual, group and family counselling will do
- Complimentary therapies including art, music & dance for early recovery of Drug users
- Follow up and care of Drug users including their family counselling
Programme Goal:
- To give awareness and proper counselling of Drug addicted or drug users and high risk behaviours groups of 1200 youth / adolescents beneficiaries in one year period
- To identify vulnerable youths and educate by peer for up gradation programme and increase community participation in the programme
- To Awareness generation programmes in high risk groups and vulnerable youth and areas. And to check up of health, detox, treatment, counselling, for to keeping good health, mental development and to bring in normalcy in family and community
- Render psychosocial interventions including educational sessions on ill effects of drug use, risk assessment on drug use among youth and linkage for treatment and rehabilitation
- Linkage to Government Departments, Institutions, Community leaders, local youth clubs, women societies, other required stakeholders.
- To Strengthening of Community based Drugs Prevention and Control Programme and also support to National Centre for Drug Abuse Prevention (NCDAP) in National Institute of Social Defence (NISD) and making it a focal point for drug demand reduction programmes.
Expected Results of the Programme:
To early identification of drug, drugs users and associated factors. Coverage of high risk and vulnerable areas where prevalence of drug abuse is more widespread with an expanded outreach 1200 youths / adolescents in one year period. Focus upon specific needs of vulnerable groups for drug de-addiction treatment. To Capacity building of local youths, vulnerable youths and students on drug abuse and prevention. Fill gaps in treatment services and to enhance availability of services. Will help in de-addiction of juveniles and bring them into mainstream. By this project can help to prevent of transmission of infectious diseases in family and community. Reduced instances of drug abuse at workplaces and increased productivity of employees. Networking and sharing of expertise among service providers.
Innovation:
Our model Programme of Community Based Peer Led Intervention for Early Drug Use Prevention Among Adolescents (CPLI) is first time to open a Centre at Senapati District of Manipur. By this project Agent for Social Change (ASOC) can motivate adolescents / youths / students / vulnerable youths and other elder person who are using drugs in the district to far away from Drugs and other high risk activities. Whereas ASOC also can arrange skills development programme for poor income families’ school dropped out students and vulnerable youth by creation of self employment and self sustainable to live happily in family and community.
